He has worked as an L.E.A. advisor for dance and drama and advisory teacher for drama and English and is an experienced trainer and workshop leader with a national and international reputation for delivering high quality professional training and development opportunities. He is the author of several texts for teachers and students, which have influenced the development of drama in recent years including Structuring Drama Work, Beginning Drama 11-14, Key Shakespeare 1 and 2 and Drama and Theatre Studies at A/S and A level. His latest publication is Improving Your Primary School Through Drama published by David Fulton in January 2006.

Since 2000, he has led the Dance and Drama Awards Evaluation Project (DADA), which is a government scholarship scheme intended to increase access to training at the elite dance and drama schools. His role at NAGTY also includes developing an inclusive provision for talented young dancers, musicians and actors. Recent research articles have included an analysis of the DADA scheme as case study in social market cultural policy; an analysis of the social and economic backgrounds of DADA students and a conceptualisation of what ‘transformation’ in the arts might mean.

Jonothan will speak today about ‘Vital Learning!’ - Creativity, partnerships and beginning a creative future. His keynote address will remind us of the importance of focusing on the arts and creativity as ways of bringing quality of life and quality of learning into our schools.
