East Education & Library Board Synopsis: Synopsis: Youth Music Theatre, based in England worked with GCSE students for one day at Loreto College. The workshop focused on the production ‘Blood Brothers’, looking at the songs and working with a composer and actress/singer. Background: Loreto College has a strong history of Drama in the school, and is offered as a GCSE and A-level course. The Head of Drama saw this as a great opportunity for her students to experience working with artists from the industry. Youth Music Theatre, within the Touring Programme, offers 2 types of workshops, ‘From Page to Stage’ and ‘The Art of Improvisation’, working with 2 artists for a day. The only other requirement for the programme was a piano and a wooden floored hall. The students at
Loreto got the taste of what it is like to work in drama, on a professional
base. The one day workshop was intense, having to learn 3 songs and
the students with the assistance of YMT, choreographed around the songs.
At the end, the students then had to present to the 6th form drama students,
which added more pressure to the occasion, which they all rose to.
