East Education & Library Board Synopsis: The young people at Stiles Youth Club, wanted to do something with the tunnel, that runs under Stiles Way, a very busy road. Nearly all the children have to walk through going to and from home. They asked for some artists to work with them, help with their own ideas and bring all the work together. One of the biggest challenges was the situation, safety aspects and that the job really did need to be done over a short period of time. Blaze FX from Belfast, facilitated design workshops pulling together ideas and visuals from the children.. From these individual desgns and drawings, Glen and Ken created and overall composition for the 2 walls. Over a 3 day period, the young people and Blaze FX, primed the walls, sprayed the outline of the design and added colour. The finished product was simple, due to the vast space and eyecatching. The parents and the local community, although at first, were wary, responded positively to the Grafitti work. The kids got invi=olved in all aspects, including the hard grafting of priming as well as spraycanning |
