Title: Tots Carnival Artform: visual art, music and movement Organisation(s): Taughmonagh Nursery Unit and Fleming Fulton Special School Creative Partners: Open Arts SYNOPSIS: The Tots Carnival was a project for Nursery school aged children from Taughmonagh Nursery Unit and Fleming Fulton Special School. One of the main aims of this inclusive project was to get able bodied children engaging with children with disabilities from as an early an age as possible. The arts project was multi disciplinary using visual art, music and movement facilitated by Open Arts. The theme of fruit was chosen as it was simple, colourful and easy for the children to engage with. The children created t-shirts, headdresses, banners based on fruits, simple chants and movements were created and the children got to play a variety of percussion instruments. The showcase was a feast of sound and colour with seventy five children of all abilities being fully involved providing the audience of proud parents, carers and friends a carnivalesque escape from Christmas; it was like being transported to Rio! |
